Blogger Buddies....

These be Me friends

On Me post, No Blog is an island, one of me regular commenters posted a thought that had me considering the idea of blog loyalty.
Me be thinking that this raises some intristin' questions about blogging relationships on the web.
It also makes me think about how differently people treat their blogs.
This could turn out to be a Venus vs. Mars kinda thing, so me gonna need your help with this one iffin you be game.

We all at some point, post personal stuff and sometimes feel down when people we like don't respond. Here at Me No Blog Me tries to post something everyday and it often be difficult to respond to folks who have commented on something Me wrote a week ago; that's why me put the recent comments doohickey back on me sidebar.

Me reckons that iffin you come by and read me stuff that's cool and if you leave a comment, even mo better. Now, Me understands the good manners of recognizing the fact that someone visits, but sometimes Me just don't have the time to visit everybody's blog. And there be times that what people post just be plain uninteresting no matter how nice they be.
Me be certain that a lot of folks find me drivel inane and sophomoric-STOMP- or they be getting sick and tired of me seemingly intellectually stunted style and don't want to play with me no more. That's ok, after all that be the way it is in real life, ain't it?

How do you feel about blogging?

1. Iffin you go to a blog and share comments with someone does that mean that you are obliged to continue?
2. Should a blogger conform to the tastes of their "constituency" to maintain popularity?
3. How do you feel if someone "drops-off"? Do you blame yourself?
4. Have you ever gotten angry at another blogger for not replying to your comments?
5. Do you see your blog as a physical extention of yourself?
6. When someone posts and you comment, then the author doesn't respond do you get pissed?
7. Is your blog just something you use to kill time?
8. If you have multiple blogs do you treat them differently.
Iffin you got any questions of yer own don't be a fraid to shout 'em out.

1. Nope. It's a hobby, so nothing is obligatory.

2. Never. For example, I post pictures of giant sex toys occasionally.

3. Not really.

4. No.

5. Not really, I'm far less sophomoric.

In general, this is a very interesting question which often comes with some unpleasant answers.

6. No.

7. Primarily and to force myself to write regularly.

8. One blog is more than enough.

No.
2. Should a blogger conform to the tastes of their "constituency" to maintain popularity?
No. I think blogging is a personal thing. Subject matter can change like quicksilver, depending on one's state of mind. It's not always going to be popular with everyone.
3. How do you feel if someone "drops-off"? Do you blame yourself?
No.
4. Have you ever gotten angry at another blogger for not replying to your comments?
No.
5. Do you see your blog as a physical extention of yourself?
No. It's more like public doodling.
6. Wwhen someone posts and you comment, then the author doesn't respond do you get pissed?
No.
7. Is your blog just something you use to kill time?
Pretty much.
8. If you have multiple blogs do you treat them differently.
Yes. With my personal blog, I can be whoever I feel like being on any given day. On my joint blog, I feel like I should at least pretend to have some sense.

Naw.

2. Should a blogger conform to the tastes of their "constituency" to maintain popularity?
ABSOLUTELY NO, otherwise, you're not really being yourself, right? That said, I do worry about how *I* come off sounding.

3. How do you feel if someone "drops-off"? Do you blame yourself?
I might feel bad--for a second. I don't think it about it more than that.

4. Have you ever gotten angry at another blogger for not replying to your comments?
No.

5. Do you see your blog as a physical extention of yourself?
Yes. It's my diary.

6. Wwhen someone posts and you comment, then the author doesn't respond do you get pissed?
No. But I admit, I did feel slighted recently when a blogger with "approval only" comments didn't approve my comment. It wasn't offensive or off-topic, either. I stopped reading after that.

7. Is your blog just something you use to kill time?
No. I have a deeply rooted need to communicate with people and a blog is a great outlet.

8. If you have multiple blogs do you treat them differently.
Yes. I don't think anyone reads the second blog, which is fine with me. It may only be interesting to me...but again, it's another diary of mine, so I don't care.

These questions are great. They probably will shake up the entire Blogosphere...Like when you graduate from high school and have to start therapy once you're in college. (Getting past all that popularity shiite is very difficult, I think.)

Um....Or maybe not.

1. Iffin you go to a blog and share comments with someone does that mean that you are obliged to continue? No.

2. Should a blogger conform to the tastes of their "constituency" to maintain popularity? I'm not popular so I don't worry too much about that. On my old blog, which I had to shut down, I had maybe one reader for 6 or 8 months, and only down the road did more people come by. I wrote purely for myself for a very long time. I truly like and appreciate the readers/commenters I have relationships with now, and if they ALL stopped visiting me I'd be sad and wonder what was wrong, but I wouldn't change my blog to bring them back. I can only be who I am.

3. How do you feel if someone "drops-off"? Do you blame yourself? I, being Venus, would probably blame myself. I'd be sad to lose a friend, but I also understand that the blog-world isn't constant--just like the real world isn't.

4. Have you ever gotten angry at another blogger for not replying to your comments? Not angry, but I've felt bad about it. There are a few blogs that I'd commented on fairly regularly for weeks, and their authors never replied (or visited my blog, as far as I know). It feels bad to be ignored--like, why don't they LIKE me??? I'm not a COMPLETE social retard--eventually I just stop commenting. Just as I would with a relationship that isn't working in the real world.

5. Do you see your blog as a physical extention of yourself? No, it's just me spouting off what I'm thinking about at any moment in time. If you reject my blog then I'm pretty sure you're rejecting me as a person, but at the same time I'm not going to change to please you.

6. Wwhen someone posts and you comment, then the author doesn't respond do you get pissed? Is this the same question as #4? Or do you mean that someone comments and then you comment and then the commentor doesn't comment? ...Oy, my head...

7. Is your blog just something you use to kill time? Sort of. It's also something I do to make connections with people and to get words out of my head.

8. If you have multiple blogs do you treat them differently. I had another one once, and I shut it down. I wrote more about work on that one, and now I don't--but that's because of the negative experience that I had when I did before.

Wow, all kinds 'o questions.

I blog because I just like too. There are certain people that I read their blogs every day and others that I read occasionally. One all of these blogs I try to comment, if I can contribute in a meaningful way and say nothing if I don't want to.

I do not get mad if no one says anything. or makes comments. We are all busy and all have very different lives...

Great Blog!

Umm, wow. I guess I'm pretty naive. I don't have answers for these questions because I guess I'm not that observant. I do know my blog is an extension of myself and sometimes I feel like I talk a little too much about myself. Sometimes I think I curse a little too much. Sometimes I think I curse a little too much in real life. I have a fondness for the "f" word. I have never noticed the comings and goings of people on my blog. People do what they want or can. I never really thought about it. I try to use my blog to improve my writing skills but some days I think I'm a failure and some days I think I wrote something pretty good. Blogging is like jogging to me. It's just something I do. It's fun. I guess I didn't understand there was a certain protocol. I can be oblivious.

1. Iffin you go to a blog and share comments with someone does that mean that you are obliged to continue?
Obligated? In what way? Are you obligated to be a courteous driver, or a thoughtful spouse, or a decent friend to anyone? I don't think "obligated" is quite the right framework in which to view this. If you don't feel a particular 'relationship' is for you, then no, there's no reason to string it along.

2. Should a blogger conform to the tastes of their "constituency" to maintain popularity?
It depends on whether the blog popularity is your goal. For some, I believe it is. Most of us blog for reasons other than popularity or hit counter stats. Some (I've seen this often with romance writers, for example) blog specifically to reach and entertain their "constituency", so it behooves them to play to it, in a way.

3. How do you feel if someone "drops-off"? Do you blame yourself?
Bad, though I wish I didn't mind. I wonder what I said to offend them, and I hope I didn't hurt anybody's feelings accidentally.

4. Have you ever gotten angry at another blogger for not replying to your comments?
No, but multiple times with no response at all and no sign of any interest in my comments or my blog aren't conducive to my participation or long-term interest. Blogging is interactive, for me. I don't think everyone feels this way.... But if they don't, then why don't they turn off the comments function? Either you want a dialogue or you want exhibitionism or you want adoration with no reciprocation. Am I missing anything? Well--I guess advertising/promotion, for writers and artists, for example.

5. Do you see your blog as a physical extention of yourself?
Physical? No.

6. Wwhen someone posts and you comment, then the author doesn't respond do you get pissed?
Not pissed, and certainly not after one or two or even a few times. But I'm not really interested in a one-sided conversation.

7. Is your blog just something you use to kill time?
Are you nuts? Blogging and being a part of a blogging community takes tons of time and energy and thought. It doesn't come at all easy for me.

8. If you have multiple blogs do you treat them differently. I agree w/ tfg: one blog is more than enough.

looks like many people have similar opinions about this.

Me feeling is if it ain't fun, it ain't worth spending time on it.

Me don't really believe that there be any rules that one has to follow exceptfor this one.

I too am pretty much on board with the others...ceptin' I do have 2 blogs..and they are different..one is music..which is vital to my well being..and I think to others of my ilk. My blog is personal...it is an extension of me of sorts, but only what I want to reveal at any given time. There's plenty in my life that never makes it to my blog. I try to always respond to anyone that comments on my blog. I don't get massive amounts of comments so it's doable..and I like that. When I comment at someones place, I hope that they respond to it, but if they don't, I am not offended..I pretty much understand that people have busy lives. 99% of the blogs I comment on, I am a regular and get responded to, so I'm cool with that.

It's fun...'nuff said.

I try to blog at least four times a week. I want more, but aim for that. I have changed my content somewhat for my readers, but I do not feel it has weakened me at all. I have so many interests that it does not bother me that my political rants do not get the readers that my more weird things do. I tend to write more of my weird things and slip in politics now. I do take it personally when I lose a reader and wonder what I did wrong. I am not sure why I blog to be honest, but I love it and am addicted to it. I get sad by a lack of comments, but not upset. I am jealous of the number of comments others get and I do not, but really do not do much to change that. I would rather have a few loyal readers than a ton of fly-by-nighters.

1. Iffin you go to a blog and share comments with someone does that mean that you are obliged to continue?

no way - but sometimes i've forgotten where i've gone and i wanted to go back. boo hoo. ah well, that be life.

2. Should a blogger conform to the tastes of their "constituency" to maintain popularity?

No way. the constituency will find you because they like what you say or how you say it. iffin they don't like it...they can click away to another blog. i write what i want and share my photos that i like...even the scary clowns that freak everyone out ;)

3. How do you feel if someone "drops-off"? Do you blame yourself?

Nope...but if I have come to feel a bond...I'll check up on them and see if they're ok. life happens and we all get busy. more i check in on folks who stop posting to make sure all is well.

4. Have you ever gotten angry at another blogger for not replying to your comments?

No.

5. Do you see your blog as a physical extention of yourself?

No. I am the physical extension of the cyber space blog that holds a few of my ideas

6. When someone posts and you comment, then the author doesn't respond do you get pissed?

Err...sometimes I forget to go back and check. Often I forget. I'm a bit self absorbed that way...drop a thoughtlet and be on my way.

7. Is your blog just something you use to kill time?

sometimes. but i find i have little time to kill. its been a way to stay connected with a community in a city where I feel a lack of friends and I wish I had more connection. I also use it as writing practice and a place to vent.

8. If you have multiple blogs do you treat them differently.

just one. thats all i can manage to post on a fairly regular basis.

Iffin you got any questions of yer own don't be a fraid to shout 'em out.

My question: how do people find it alters their posts if folks in real life are reading it?

For me...I've censored some things about my sexuality and deeper issues if I know that colleagues might peek. :)

Thanks Stompy! This was fun.

Scary-
I definitely don't say all the things I'd like to say at MV- I am somewhat censored there because of all the people who read it (locals-friends- and they never say hi! :(

I love what you said here in the comments, "Be beautiful to yourself"...
Excellent advice :)

1. Iffin you go to a blog and share comments with someone does that mean that you are obliged to continue?

No one is ever obligated to visit my blog, but I feel terrible that I no longer have the time to visit everyone else regularly. Terrible, I say.

2. Should a blogger conform to the tastes of their "constituency" to maintain popularity?

I deplore popularity contests. I do get the impression that's what many blogs are.

3. How do you feel if someone "drops-off"? Do you blame yourself?

I've seen a huge drop in my stats, from well over a hundred a day to only ten on some. It's now hovering around 30.

Well, hell, yes. If I'm not there providing something interesting to read, whose fault is that but mine?

4. Have you ever gotten angry at another blogger for not replying to your comments?

No.

5. Do you see your blog as a physical extention of yourself?

Do you really mean physical, here? I do see it as some kind of extension of myself.

6. When someone posts and you comment, then the author doesn't respond do you get pissed?

No.

7. Is your blog just something you use to kill time?

You have time to kill? Lucky you! Blogs are a huge time suck. If I post, if I visit, I've taken time away from something else I SHOULD be doing. I'm doing that right now.

8. If you have multiple blogs do you treat them differently.

I don't have multiple blogs. I have a blog and two web sites. I basically ignore the sites. Lately, I've ignored my blog, too.

The Grunt said...

1. I don't feel obliged. My only reason for blogging was to write my whacked out thoughts, not to read.

2. I've done this before and it worked as far as getting popular. It was fun until I noticed that my own personal interests in blogging started to suffer. Now I do whatever.

3. I feel bad when someone drops off. I still think about people who dropped off my blog in 2005. I just wonder what happened to them. I don't blame myself.

4. I have felt like some bloggers that I leave comments to purposely ignore me. It has pissed me off sometimes.

5. My blog is an expression of my mind. I get to express it more vividly because I am not too concerned with ruining my reputation and most of my readers like what I write.

6. This is like #4.

7. I have never blogged at work. I do this on my time and this is why it is hard for me to visit people. If I visit you it means I like your blog. It doesn't mean I like you. There are people that I like but I can't read their blogs--boring or just plain stupid. BTW, you are cool, both blog wise and person wise.

8. My other blogs all serve different purposes and I do treat them differently. A couple of them were just fun outlets to write fictional serials. Some were to write more R-rated "guy humor" material. I have even started a blog with the sole purpose to get a date. That one is secret. Some blogs are for particular interests, like music. Other's were started because I registered at Yahoo 360 and Bloglines and they had the option of a blog, so I just dicked around with it until I got bored.

On this subject, I had people get really mad at me for stopping my fictional serials. My main squeeze, Grunt Ahoy, was demanding too much of my attention. Something had to give. Now I will only do a post on my other blogs if I just want to. Some have been idle for over a year now. I have one blog where I do posts as Bill Gates and I have only had one comment. I still am going to post on that one, readers be damned. Oh, and I will definitely pick up "Vollewraithe" again.

Great idea with those eight questions, Scary. I really enjoyed everyone's candor in answering them. I was going to answer your questions here as a comment, but I have instead decided to commit my answers to a post on my site. When it is posted, I will reference this post and let you know when it is up.
