Oh say can you see?

Most people seem to be fixated on the recent tragedy.
There be an awful lot of opinions about the perpetrator and the authority's response to his actions.
Me can't remember the last time someone brought up Columbine and the horror that was experienced then.
In a few weeks there will be new headlines, but until then...
There will be in depth reports about his history of trouble.
There will be photographs of the victims; their families.
Me envisions editorials of rage.
Politicians using the incident as a platform to promote gun control and gain more support.
Repercussions against Asians presently living in the U.S.
Me imagines all sorts of new policies for schools: drills to learn how to handle similar situations, advisers hired to implement new security techniques, psychologists offering new ways to prevent new outbreaks or copycat incidents, increased budgets for campus police and a slew of new rules that intend to make things safer for students in our schools, but will only succeed in making it more difficult for them to move unhindered through their respective educational institutions.
Me sees freedom cowering in the face of threats.
So what will you do?
Will you give up your guns, if you own any?
Will you try to convince your neighbor to?
Will you complain to your senators and representatives about the amount of firearms being made and distributed by American businesses. (60% percent of the world's market)
Will you be willing to pay more in taxes when that revenue disappears?
Me be wondering what you be willing to do to make a change.
If we only care about ourselves, than it be certain that we will most definitely see these events play out over and over again in the future.
If this happened in another country, would there have been such a reaction? (think before you answer that one)
Why are these things only important when they happen within ones borders?
We are part of a world, not a country.

Me no lock the barn door.
STOMP.

We are part of the world, but we tend to drift towards smaller areas of concern. It is not simply about country. After 9/11 the people in New York had stronger feelings than those in Nebraska because New York was hit. A tragedy in my home always carries more weight than one that happens next door.

They will try to limit gun control due to this and they will try to limit freedom due to this. I do not blame them because that is their job. It is up to us to do our jobs and let them know that, while we weep for the victims we will not give the asshole the final victory of forever changing our lives due to his actions. We will mourn, move on, remember the dead and forget the killer.

Me forgot about the 420 thang. Me gonna kick back and let the old feelins come back.

The attack on September 11 has had repercussions across all of America and many other borders as well.

That loser(not loner)is not the first and will not be the last.
The ability to destroy a thing gives people a higher sense of control than the ability to build.

P.S. Thanks fer not takin me head off.

"We are the world. We are the..." Crap...never mind...I got that tune stuck in my head. No, your right. I'll donate my gun. Wait, I don't own one. I'll go steal one right now to donate...

Vehemently anti-handgun. Always will be.

PS-- totally diggin' the fish-a-flyin', Scary M.

Oh, we're fish-a-flyin' now. What fun. If all guns were to disappear and criminals no longer had them, I'd be fine with that. Until that happens, I really want the right to protect myself by whatever means available.

VE~ Allow me to quote you to yours truly. "VE Knows". Thanks Bud. Me was certian you'd be able to put a different spin on this post.

lbb~ There be so many other ways to kill people. Fer instance, Me uncle was attacked and killed with a rubber chicken. It happened right in front of me eyes and to this day me still shudders at the sight of one. Me be totally anti~ chicken

SJ~ Specious argument sweetheart. When was the last time you felt threatened and in need of a gun to protect yourself?
Many people who own the damned things don't even know how to use them.
OK, Me will conceed the point. There will never be a time when the criminal element won't posses weapons, so iffin we extropolate your line of thinking, maybe it would be safer if everyone were armed.
Then again, I'd certainly like Mrs. Monster to be able pop a cap in someone's ass if they tried to touch her. She would too.

Shoot, I don't know what the answer is here. All I know is that if some creep is coming after me with a gun, I'd prefer to be on equal footing with him.

I'm with Mrs. Monster -- pop a cap in their asses.:)

Hey there Monster. Got your messege, thanks.
It's taken me a while to catch up on all of your posts. Shitty about Don, yeah?
Love the vampire.
What's with the rubber chicken thing on your sidebar??

Gambatte!

Actually, this did happen in another country. Today. 140 innocents were killed in a car bombing in Iraq.

TGF made my point for me.

No one in the Middle East is calling for the elimination of all bombs- or for the elimination of Jihad!

I am pro-gun, but don't own one. If and when I do buy one- I'm headed straight to the Police department to sign up for training... And I will be DANGEROUS with that thing! Actaully- I'll be very safe with it...but deadly if anyone comes after me~
(I've always wanted to try sword fighting ;)

What bothers me is that no-one stood up to this guy- except for that one teacher- and he got shot.
Of course the movies make it look easy- and no doubt there will be a movie...ick.

A Korean kid I know and think alot of is being teased now...and I hate it. Asian people (in my experience) are some of the most loving and gentle people I've ever met.
Of course- I've not met the leader from North Korea either!

We are indeed a part of a world- Earthquakes, floods, tornados, Tsunami's, and losers with guns take lives. It's hard to make sense of it all~

I'm trying hard to "give" and "love" and "stomp" carefully.
It's the best I can do...

SJ ~ Come up with an answer win yourself a prise and a free trip to Oslo to meet the king.

NYD~ Welllllll Lookie here!
Drop some food and the cockroaches come out to party. Yeah the news about Don was a bummer, but being drunk on he street weren't

Rubber chicken reminds me of the BBQ we ate in Honolulu

tfg~ Yeah it happened, but no one is outraged or surprised.
Nobody was outraged about Montreal back in September.
and very few tears were shed when Chechen rebels took russian students hostage.

Mrs.C ~Actually there was a peace conference held in Riydah last month. Leaders of 21 of the Arab League's 22 member states attended the two-day summit. Libya was the only country that did not attend.

Me does understand that a gun be just another tool. One that can be used for good as well as evil, but there is no moral growth involved in the handling of one.
In order to learn how to use a sword properly you would have to undergo many years of training. That training would be the one thing that prevented you from foolishly utilizing it.

The repercussions of the incident will be heard for a long time and there was a tragic loss of life. People will do and say a lot of things to forward their own agendas but it cannot change what happened. I think the child was mentally ill and unfortunately he was sold weapons. I think that does need to be looked in to. In hindsight perhaps the warning signs were there, but I doubt I would have picked him out as a homicidal maniac even if I had known him.

Well, I have guns and treat them with total respect. I would give them up if they were made illegal, but I would fight for my right to carry a firearm. I know that many acts of violence and accidents that result in injury and death involve guns, but still there is an overwhelming majority of lawfully diligent and safe gun owners in the USA.

Guns are evil, until you need one.

Raccoon corn dog~ Sensible words.
You hit a key point and a sore spot for me. He was sold weapons. It be far too easy to obtain a hand gun today.

Cap'n I see your point and I believe that firearms, in some instances may be used for a rightous purpose. It's just that there are so damned many of them and quite often they are used indicriminatly.
Me used to carry. Me just don't anymore. I guess Me is becoming a little bit Mc Gyvver in me old age.

Hope I'll never need to eat me words.

"No moral growth in using one"-

Yes friend, I see that.
I see that it is fear and fear alone that would motivate me to buy a gun. However, since I don't own one yet- I suppose that says something about my life.
I am not afraid for my safety.
Interestingly- my fears are almost never about my "person" being injured as much as they revolve around my "heart" or spirit being harmed.
I don't think I'm even all that afraid of death...but heartache makes me miserable.
And really, heartache is what makes us all miserable...we all feel it (or most of us do) when there is a terrible loss.

Someone once told me that PAIN is a primary emotion, and that Fear and Anger are secondary emotions.
I suppose that Courage is 3rd?
Oh, yes- I recall...Courage is a virtue~

It will take loads of courage for people to let go of their fear and their hate. This is the root of the problem, isn't it?
A lack of courage-
and a lack of love.

"Anger is a secondary emotion"
i agree, i only think that fear is at least more basic than anger,
whether its on the same level with pain, goh, i'll think about that one

when hurt, anger is an easy step to take, a step i try to fight as much as i can,
i just wonder about the possible beneficial effects of ventilating anger (as safe as possible, without hurting others please), does it really help, or just temporarily distracts attention from the pain

i think the world would be a nicer place if more people realised that their anger is just a side-effect from what they're really experiencing
