Frantic, antics and Semantics.

Words. Words, words, words, words!
A short time ago Me tried to tackle the idea of expectations and ironically Me were trounced by me own. Once more Me be grist for the mill and attempt to differentiate between the subtle ideas and aspects encased within the concrete that fills Me head. Goals and aspirations be mighty things indeed and one would be hard pressed to find anyone to disagree with that. Dreams and hope are the magic that sprinkles our lives and makes the day to day bullcrap tolerable. But expectations are an extention of desire and when we desire are we not decieving ourselves into thinking that what we want to achieve is merely material or coincidental? Arbitrary determinations are at best illusionary and at worst self defeating. Simply put one may never gain one iota from expectations. If you attian it there can be no happiness or sense of achievement for there were no surprise to it and if we do not get it it only leaves a feeling of sadness and despair. Not worthy things in me book.

Me no keep me big mouth shut.

My view of expectation is that it is loaded with emotion and desire, as you said. We can have plans, and plans and goals for the future are fine. However, when we develop expectations around these, we are usually setting ourselves up for suffering, because they may not be realized. Things will very rarely develop exactly according to our expectations. Even when the actual result is better for us than our original expectation, we may feel disappointed!

The other aspect is that expectations are constantly arising when we allow them free reign, so that we are chasing them into the future in a never-ending cycle of desire. Even if we get some of the conditions what we were expecting, there are always more in place by then. We make it certain that we will suffer because of this.
